Event 16: Harris Hits the Bricks

$300 + $50 NL (1 Re-entry)

After Eric Beringer (Bryn Mawr, PA) opens the betting, David Harris (NYC) moves all in from the SB for 91k. Joe Lee (Cresskill, NJ) flat calls from the BB leaving himself 100k behind. Beringer 4-bets all in and Lee tanks.

After careful consideration, Lee calls.

Beringer: A♠ 4♠
Harris: 9 9♣
Lee: Q Q♠

The board doesn't offer any help and Lee wins it all to eliminate Harris in 16th place ($781).

Event 16: Two Down

$300 + $50 NL (1 Re-entry)

The first two eliminations from the final two tables are:

17 Kenneth Lin (Forest Hills, NY) $781
18 Juan Vazquez (Roselle Park, NJ) $781

Event 42: Lucky 7 In Championship Event

270 + 30 (1 in 10) Sat.

Douglas Friedmutter (Brooklyn, NY)

Douglas Friedmutter just won his seat into the Borgata Spring Poker Open Championship Event along with six other winners.

The guys have been playing since 3pm this afternoon and action just concluded in The Signature Room.

Event 15: Gordon Not Done Yet

$1000 + $90 NL

Quick ten minute break while we see where we're at.

Mike "little Man" Sica and Mike Dentale have been eliminated while Gordon Eng is up and down like a roller coaster.

First Gordon's pocket queens get crushed on the river giving his opponent a set of sevens.
Just like that Eng went from 32,000 down to 15,000.

But a couple hands later the pendulum swung the other way when Gordon doubled up through Dwyte Pilgrim when his Q-J outflopped Piglrim's A-10.

29 Players remain.
Average chip stack: 76,340

Blinds up to 1000 / 2000 with 300 ante.

Event 16: Big Stacks

$300 + $50 NL (1 Re-entry)

Costa Cruising Along

The new chip leader is Chris Costa (Honolulu, Hawaii) who has 475k. His biggest hand was KK vs AQ vs QQ to take down a 350k pot.

Also over the 400k mark is Eric Beringer (Bryn Mawr, PA) who's at 430k.

The final 18 players are now redrawing for the final two tables.

Event 15: Twenty Nine Left

$1000 + $90 NL

Jesse Yaginuma Eliminates Another

Jesse Yaginuma sitting on 190,000 when his JJ survives a straight draw sweat and knocks a player out.

Opponent held 9-10 diamonds and was all in for his remaining 20,000.

Board of 7-4-8-10-5 had Jesse's latest victim needing one of his jacks for the straight.

Event 16: Flop a Boat, Drawing Dead

$300 + $50 NL (1 Re-entry)

David Vasquez (Brooklyn, NY) is all in for 101k and at risk against Vito Oliva (Pompton Lakes, NJ), who barely has him covered.

Vasquez: 9 9
Oliva K K

Flop: K♠ K♣ 9♣

Game, set, match. Vasquez flops quads and is out despite flopping a full house. He's out in 23rd place and earns $690.

Event 15: Unbelievable Run

$1000 + $90 NL

If I didn't see it, I wouldn't believe it.

Imagine you're all in pre-flop for your entire tournament holding only J-8 suited.

Now imagine you actually hit the best flop you could hope for short of a straight flush.

How about that J-J-J

That's what just happened to Mike "Unbelievable" Dentale.

The table erupts and has a laugh.

"Felt like I just won a slot machine the way that came out" said Mikey.

Another players shouts out, "You get beef jerky at the World Series for that".

Dentale follows up the quad flop in the same orbit by four betting 4-5 diamonds and busting QQ on a board of 8-3-5-6-7.

"They can't keep a good man down, bro" says the comeback kid.

Event 15: Jesse Jacks James

$1000 + $90 NL

Jesse Yaginuma climbs up to 140,000 after felting James Gilbert.

It was Jesse's AA vs. Jim's A-K on a flop of 8-2-10.

Gilbert has a ray of hope when a K spikes the turn...but a river queen sends him packing.

Jim is out in 37th place - one away from breaking down to four tables.

Money for top 18.

Average stack is $59,150

Event 16: Early Eliminations

$300 + $50 NL (1 Re-entry)

Since the bubble broke, the bust outs have been fast and furious. Notables on the rail include Swarthmore student Matt Turner (Audubon, PA) and Borgata regular Scott Strubel (Fords, NJ).

Still in the mix for the ~$25,000 top prize is Larry Gold, Matt Mazzeo, May Sui and Eric Siegel.

The field has been cut to 3 tables as 27 players remain.

Event 15: Dwyte "Schrutes" Up In Chips

$1000 + $90 NL

Dwyte Pilgrim Up To His Old Tricks

I love this kid. Not only is he the 2010 Borgata Poker Open WPT champion but he likes to talk at the table. Dwyte just got an opponent to fold by talking him into it. I have a feeling that the more chips he acquires, the more talking he'll do.

So how did Dwyte get all his chips? In an earlier hand...

Last Woman Standing, Cynthia Albert, is out when her 5-5 gets run down by former chip leader Matthew Iles' pocket kings and Dwyte Pilgrim's K-10.

Dwyte raises with K-10 and Cynthia jams her last 9,000. Dwyte calls as does chip leader Matthew Iles.

Flop falls 10-2-8.

Dwyte ships all in for 50,000 and Iles calls holding pocket Kings.

Turn card ten gives Dwyte the lead with trips and the river blanks.

Chip leader takes a hit while Dwyte doubles up.

Dwyte's up to 160,000.

Matt Stout heard about the hand and rushed over to "congratulate" the players involved.

Event 16: Jetting the Hat

$300 + $50 NL (1 Re-entry)

Gold, Man without Hat

We told Larry Gold (Farmingville, NY) that bloggers are not "allowed" to give shout outs until players hit the money. Of course that was just our way of providing him an incentive to make his second cash of the series.

When the bubble broke he was quick to let us know that today's a special day for his girlfriend.
"Happy Birthday, Liz" he says while looking to move up the pay sheet.

Today must be extra special as it's one of the few times we've seen him not wearing a hat. Usually he's sporting a Jets hat, but maybe allowing his follicles to get some fresh air is helping his game.

Event 16: Bubble Breaks

$300 + $50 NL (1 Re-entry)

It's a short lived hand-for-hand has Jason Gardner (Brick, NJ) is all in for his last 15k with pocket jacks against the A♠ 7♠ of Saad Ghanem (Rosedale, MD). The flop brings two spades and when the Q♠ hits the turn the bubble breaks with Ghanem's nut flush.

Gardner is the last player eliminated before the money. The final 36 players collect at least $582.

Here's a reminder of what they're playing for:

Entries: 316
Total Buy-In: $94,800

Place - Amount

1 $24,828
2 $13,793
3 $8,552
4 $6,897
5 $5,333
6 $4,506
7 $3,632
8 $2,713
9 $1,839
10-12 $1,195
13-15 $919
16-18 $781
19-27 $690
28-36 $552

Event 15: Stout Ousts Leventhal

$1000 + $90 NL

Matt Stout Scoops Large

Matt Stout with over a million in tournament wins mixes it up with Borgata regular Barry Leventhal.

On a flop of 3-10-K Leventhal shoves his remaining 10,000 and says to his buddy, "Start the car".

Stout and a third opponent build a side-pot.

Turn card 3 continues the betting but a river 10 shuts it down.

Barry flips K-9 for two pair while Stout tables KK for a full house.

Well disguised and he'll scoop the 25,000 pot.

Event 15: Table 2 Chips

$1000 + $90 NL

Table 2:
Dwyte Pilgrim - 80,000
Mike "Little Man" Sica - 30,000
Cynthia Albert - 20,000
Matthew Iles 135,000
Gordon Eng - 42,000
Matthew Galluzo - 42,000
Andy Egan 38,000

Looks like Iles is still the tournament chip leader.
Little Man said not to count him out - looking for a double up.

Breaks over...blinds up 600 / 1200 with 200 antes

Event 16: Grind Time

$300 + $50 NL (1 Re-entry)

Players are on a 10 minute break as the floor staff color up the black (100) chips. 39 players remain with an average stack of 97k. We're 3 spots from the money, play resumes
with Level 16 (2500/5000/500 ante).

Event 15: "Russell"ing Chips - Time To Rebuild

$1000 + $90 NL

Steve Russell (Coolville, OH)

Steve Russell dusts off 50,000 before the break in a classic race against all-in John Myung.

Steve says, "I'll gamble" as he makes the heads-up pre-flop call tabling A-J.

Myung's 8-8 holds on a board of 2-10-5-4-K.

John Myung tells Steve good call and tells me maybe I'm his good luck charm since he never wins those flips.

Steve Russell, a building remodeling contractor will have to re-build his stack after the demolition ball struck the former chip leader. Russell drove 8 hours from Coolville to play in the Borgata Spring Poker Open.

He's been on a midwest rush winning $31,000 at the Hollywood in Indiana and a WPT 550 buy-in event.

Event 16: More Bust Outs

$300 + $50 NL (1 Re-entry)

Since dinner break May Siu finished off her rivalry with Steve Fiorentini by sending him to the rail.

Patricia Cahill won another big pot with pocket aces against Scott Strubel (Fords, NJ), she's the clear chip leader with 329k.

Matt "Muffins" Mazzeo and Eric "Pools" Siegel are still in the field.

Event 15: Nature Calls

$1000 + $90 NL

Jim Gilbert Sweats Flush

Jim Gilbert (Bensalem, PA) knocks a player out, wins a huge pot, then immediately darts out of The Signature Room.

Adam Lippert to his left says, "When you gotta go, you gotta go" - which gets a laugh.

With 50 minute blind levels Jim has the right idea...it took the dealer a while to pull the pot. Jim barely missed one hand.

The near double up brings Gilbert up to 100,000.

He tabled KK on a heart heavy board of 7-4-K-9-8.

Betting went back and forth on flop and river.

Opponent couldn't beat Jim's set but declined showing.

Event 15: Randy Hits The Sweepstakes

$1000 + $90 NL

Randy Spainhour (South Port, NC) was moved from Table 2 to Table 6.

Working with a short stack, I asked Randy if he was happy to get away from such a power-house table?

"It doesn't matter - lost all my chips over there anyway" said Spainhour.

Randy runs a Sweepstakes Business in North Carolina based on a server system so it's not gambling (Feds If You're Reading). Things like slot style games and Keno.

Event 16: Own-idge

$300 + $50 NL (1 Re-entry)

"Own-idge," is the phrase being used on Table 4 as Patricia Cahill (Port Jefferson Station, NY) is stacking a mountain of chips. Definition: owning the other players, to dominate the table.

Since coming back from break she hit a 170k pot that knocked out one player. On another hand Cahill raised preflop and got a call from Larry Gold (Farmingville, NY). The board comes down A♠ K♠ 5♣ and Cahill bets 25k.

"Own-idge," says Gold, who folds while showing 99 and the coaxes Cahill into showing Q♠ J♠
for the Royal Flush draw.

Her stack is now well over 200k.

Event 15: Playoff Atmosphere

$1000 + $90 NL

With only one TV in The Signature Room, some players are rubbernecking around to see the Knicks playoff game.

It's also a playoff atmosphere with this event. Players are more serious, more down to business, more professional.

Only the best of the best have plunked down $1000 to battle it out and see who comes out on top.

49 Players remain on 6 tables.

Average chip stack - 43,000

Blinds: 500 / 1000 with 100 antes.

Event 15: Clown Call

$1000 + $90 NL

Clowning Around

This scary card protector belongs to Marc Podell (New York, NY) courtesy of his ten year old son Preston.

Marc took down Foxwoods Mega Deep Stack last August with the clown by his side and he's on his way to going deep in Event 15, Borgata 1K.

Marc is above average holding on to 64,000.

Event 15: Rich Get Richer

$1000 + $90 NL

Table 2 will be fun to cover.

Matthew Iles ends up winning a decent pot involving Mike "Little Man" Sica and opponent in the 5 seat.

Iles leads out on the river after the third consecutive four hits the board.

Sica folds as does Seat 5 (who represented JJ). Iles shows A-3 for a full house.

Sica pipes up, "Firing some real airballs there" to which Iles responds, "All I got is airballs".

Chipleader's running good and adds another 15,000 to his growing stack.

Event 15: Full Stomachs

$1000 + $90 NL

Our boys (and Cynthia Albert) are back from dinner where they'll resume Level 8.

54 Players remain and 18 get paid.

Average stack is $40,588 and the leader is Matthew Iles with 110,000.

We're still in the Signature Room and will be playing until 2am or down to a final table then pick it up tomorrow at 12 noon.

50 minute levels - Blinds: 400 / 800 with 75 antes.

Game On!

Event 16: Back in Action

$300 + $50 NL (1 Re-entry)

One of the first bust outs after the dinner break is Robert Varkonyi (Great Neck, NY), the former
WSOP Main Event Champion only had 15k and is now on the rail.

A few more eliminations means we're down to 6 tables and less than 60 players remain. The top 36 cash as they chase the nearly $25,000 first prize.

Event 16: Studying the Field

$300 + $50 NL (1 Re-entry)

Turner Hopes to Channel
Charlie Sheen by "Winning"

Matt Turner (Audubon, PA) has been near the top of the chip counts all day and with 115k is poised to make a run. The Swarthmore College student is taking a temporary leave from his English and music studies to focus on poker.

"My parent's are putting up half of my buy-ins," he says, "it's cheaper than tuition."

Before the on-line poker government crackdown, Turner was running well and rated in the top 1% on one site. That success and some educational indecision led him to the live games.

"I'm studying these people," he says looking around the table.

And despite what a lot of people think, Swarthmore is not an all girls school. "You wouldn't believe how many people say that," he says.

Event 15: Dinner Time

$1000 + $90 NL

At 7pm, the clock was stopped and players were sent on a one hour dinner break.  Play will resume at about 8pm.

Matthew Iles has lost some ground, but still leads the field with ~110k.  I don't find anyone else over the 100k mark.

Event 16: Dinner Break

$300 + $50 NL (1 Re-entry)

Players are on a 45 minute dinner break. Here's a look at some of the big stacks:

Matt "Muffins" Mazzeo 135k
Matt Turner 115k
Steve Fiorentini 110k
Saad Ghanem 105k
May Sui 92k
Chris Costa 82k

66 players remain with an average stack of 57k. Play resumes with Level 13 (1,200/2,400/300 ante) at 7:45 pm

Event 15: Mike & Mike

$1000 + $90 NL

Table 2:
Mike Sica was all-in in a three-way pre-flop shove-fest.  His pocket Aces were up against pocket Queens and AJ when the board came J 7 4 A 3.  Mike more than doubled, busting the player with Queens.  He's up to about 36k.

Table 3:
Mike Dentale was all-in again, this time with pocket Jacks against AQ.  The board was J 8 3 6 Q and Mike doubled up to ~46k.

Down to six tables (54 players).  Average is over 40k.

Event 16: Action, Reaction

$300 + $50 NL (1 Re-entry)

May Siu (NYC) and Steve Fiorentini (Winchester, MA) are in a big hand right before the dinner break. Siu (150k) and Fiorentini (55k) see a flop of A 3 2 and Siu leads out for 7k.

Fiorentini reraises all in and Siu goes in the tank. She esposes an ace and before Fiorentini comments, Siu makes the call.

Siu: A 2♣
Fiorentini: 7 7

Siu has a pair of aces and a strong hold on the hand until the 7♣ hits the turn as Fiorentini hits the two outer to win the hand with a set.

"Everything happened so fast, so I'm glad I got the chips," says Fiorentini about Siu exposing her card. "When you do that, the rule is you either get a penalty or you're committed to fold."

Nothing else is made of the situation, but the table debates whether an infraction incurred and if Siu was trying to illicit a reaction; she drops to 95k.

Event 15: Podell Doubles

$1000 + $90 NL

As the last few minutes of the 300/600 with 75 antes level were ticking away, Marc Podell (New York, NY) was all-in pre-flop against a player with pocket Kings.

 Marc Podell

Good thing Marc held pocket Aces.

His Aces held up and Marc doubled to 49,300.

Then the blinds went up to 400/800 with 75 antes.

They'll play through to 7pm, then take a dinner break.

Event 16: 90 Left

$300 + $50 NL (1 Re-entry)

Nine tables remain and are now all in the tournament area of the Poker Room. The final 90 players have an average stack of 42k.

The best quote we've heard in awhile comes from a player who lost a hand when his opponent hit his draw.

"I don't mind that you called, I mind that you hit."

Level 12 (1k/2k/300 ante) is underway, the last level before the 7 pm dinner break.

Event 15: Two Too Funny

$1000 + $90 NL

Table Two is now the most interesting table in the room.

 Table Two

Dwyte Pilgrim is in the one seat.  Mike 'Little Man' Sica just got moved into the two seat.  Last Woman Sitting Cynthia Albert is in the three seat.  Chip Leader Matthew Iles is in the four.  Gordon Eng in seated in six.  Matthew Galluzo is in the eight seat and Andy Egan is in the nine seat.

(The empty 7 seat is the one that used to belong to Jason Young.)

Dwyte and Mike both have very distinctive laughs and I can hear the chuckles all the way over here at media row.

Event 16: Crackin' Aces

$300 + $50 NL (1 Re-entry)

Varkonyi Vanquishes Aces

Players on table 1 don't want pocket aces because they've been cracked twice in three hands

2002 WSOP Main Event Champion Robert Varkonyi (Great Neck, NY) is the first to do it when he's all-in and at risk with QQ against AA and A2. Another player says he folded a queen and when a queen hits the flop, Varkonyi wins the pot with the one outer and now has 80k in chips.

Two hands later, Saad Ghanem (Rosedale, MD) has pocket aces vs his opponents J10 . The flop has one heart, and then goes runner-runner hearts to take 50k from Ghanem, who's now down to 20k.

Event 15: Unbelievable

$1000 + $90 NL

Mike 'Unbelievable' Dentale got all-in for his last 10,650 getting action from a player holding KQ off.

 Mike Dentale

Mike's pocket Aces were way ahead, so the Ace on the flop was icing on the cake.  The case Ace on the turn was the sprinkles on the icing on the cake and serious overkill.  Needless to say, Mike doubled up.

Down to 7 tables now with 63 players.  Average is almost 35k.

Jason Young just busted out...make that 62 players.

Event 15: Payouts

10-12 $1,195
13-15 $919
16-18 $781
19-27 $690
28-36 $552

Event 15: By The Numbers

$1000 + $90 NL

Final player count for this event is 146, generating total buy-ins of $146,000.

That puts 2.19 million chips in play.   With 76 players remaining, the average stack is almost 29k.

That also means that almost half the field is gone already.

Still waiting on payouts, but the final 18 will get paid.

Event 16: Muffins Rising

$300 + $50 NL (1 Re-entry)

Matt "Muffins" Mazzeo is up to 90k and some of his chips come courtesy of pocket 6. Mazzeo flops a set and turns a full house, 6s full of 5s and knocks out a player in the process.

Players are just back from break as Level 10 (600/1,200/200 ante) is underway.

120 players remain with an average stack of 32k.

Event 16: Runner-Runner Straight

$300 + $50 NL (1 Re-entry)

Twice in ten minutes, at the same table, a flopped set loses to runner-runner straight. First Omar Holmes (Bronx, NY) flops a set of queens, only to lose to a AK when the board runs out jack-ten.

Then on a board of 8 9 10, it's Saad Ghanem (Rosedale, MD) who calls an all-in bet with pocket kings and is against a set of 8s . This time the board runs out jack-queen and Ghanem hits the king high straight to send his opponent to the rail.

Event 15: Musical Chairs

$1000 + $90 NL

Mickey Woll made his stand in the small blind, shoving with KQ.  The big blind called his short-stack holding a dominated K2.  With only one live card, Mickey's opponent still flopped a 2, pairing up as the board came paint-free.  Mickey was busted.

Table 11 has broken and those players scattered.  John Myung landed at table 5 with Al Grimes, Charles Furey, and Mike Sica.

Jason Young and Matthew Iles went to table two, joining lone female Cynthia Albert.

Doug Rosen is now seated at table 3 with Mike Dentale and Barry Leventhal.

Ray Shackelford ended up at table 7 to the right of Dwyte Pilgrim.

Event 16: Holmes Cracks the Case

$300 + $50 NL (1 Re-entry)

Holmes Tames Taemee

A big hand is brewing when, from the button, Taemee Feuer (New Platz, NY) 3-bets the pot to 4k and gets three callers.

Flop: 9 Q♣ A(checks around)
Turn: 6 (Platz bets 2k, 1 caller)
River: 4♣

Omar Holmes (Bronx, NY) checks from the small blind and Platz moves all in for 6,250. Holmes goes in the tank and eventually makes the call with A♣ 2♣ for a pair of aces. A frustrated Feuer mucks and is out.

Holmes wins the 35k pot and is now at 50k.

Event 15: Busto

$1000 + $90 NL

These guys are history:

Richard Woodall
Stephen Reynolds
Roland Israelashvilli
Tony Sinishtaj
Eric Seigel
Will Heger
Ben Klier

Down to eleven tables now, so the killer table will be the next one to break, spreading those players out into empty seats elsewhere in the room.

Currently playing in level 6 with blinds of 200/400 and 50 antes.

Seat Swap

Two quality tournaments and two quality fields means players who busted before the close of registration have the chance to reluctantly play in both events.

John Myung (Viena, VA) busted in Event 16 ($350) and is now at a killer table in Event 15 ($1k).

On the flip side Dave Wiesberger (NYC) busted from the $1k and while Event 16 was on break found out he only had minutes to get in the registration line. After a short wait he's the last to get into the tournament as registration is closed.

The cage is now totaling the entries for both tournaments, we'll have the total numbers and payouts shortly.

Event 15: Killer Table

$1000 + $90 NL

With the movement of players in the room as tables break, the luck of the draw sometimes creates some tough tables.  This is one of the toughest I've seen in a long time.

Table 11 now hosts Jason Young, John Myung, Ray Shackelford, chip leader Matthew Iles, and Doug Rosen.

Event 15: Boyle Loses In More Ways Than One

$1000 + $90 NL

James Boyle has busted out of this event and came over to pay off a last-longer bet with Mike 'Little Man' Sica.

 James Boyle and Mike Sica

These two also have an ongoing weight-loss bet running up until the WSOP this summer.  James is just a shadow of his former self, so he must be planning to make his last-longer money back on the weight-loss prop.  (Due to their height difference, Mike gets 1.5 to 1 adjustment.)

Event 16: The Road Less Traveled

$300 + $50 NL (1 Re-entry)

Media row is where bad beat stories go to die. Unless it was extraordinarily bad (better than, can you believe he called me with J 3 off?) or during a slow time (rarely), the bloggers listen, nod and then reply with a standard cliche like, "what are you going to do?"

99% percent of the bad beat stories we hear go unreported, but rarely does the perpetrator of the hand (the one who delivered the bad beat) stop by to gloat. But that's exactly what we got from Eric "Pools" Siegel (Melville, NY).

"I run so good early in tournaments," says Siegel while rubbing his hands and grinning like the Cheshire cat. Who wouldn't be, after cracking pocket aces with pocket kings?

Siegel says he 5 bet shove with 30k and has his opponent's 22k covered. One of the two remaining kings hits the flop and sends his victim to the rail, while Siegel uses the momentum to build his stack to 65k.

Players are on a 10 break and it's the last chance to re-enter the tournament, no word if the Siegel casualty is back in line.

Event 15: Brikis Bricks

$1000 + $90 NL

During the previous level, Josh Brikis got his pocket Aces cracked by Charles Furey and was knocked down below starting stack size.

 Josh Brikis

After returning from break, Josh's pocket Kings ran into a full house flopped by Al Grimes and Josh is busted.

Josh won the $1,500 No Limit event here during the 2010 Borgata Poker Open, cashing for over $119k.

Event 16: Pros vs Joes

$300 + $50 NL (1 Re-entry)

Steve Dannenmann (Severn, MD/$4.5 million career earnings) and John Myung (Viena, VA/$2 million career) were seated side-by-side on table 3. But it wasn't a good day for the two recognizable pros as they were ousted within 10 minutes of each other.

Myung was out first, followed by Dannenmann, who busted when he hit two pairs on the river, but it gave Ed Farb (Sea Girt, NJ) the nut flush.

Level 6 (200/400/50) is underway and is the last level to re-enter the tournament.

Event 15: Break Time Leaderboard

$1000 + $90 NL

End of level four and players are taking a break.  This will also be the last chance for players to register for this event.

 Matthew Iles

As of the break, Matthew Iles leads the field with ~75k.  Looks like Trevor Savage is second with ~50k.

Matthew went deep in event 8, the $400 Deep Stack Douple Play, just a few days ago.  He ended up in 19th place ($1,463).

Signature Room vs Poker Room

As players bust out of the $1k the Signature Room, the number of tables in use continue to shrink, but company is on the way. The staff is setting up the 3 pm Championship Qualifier, where for $270 + $30 players have ~1 in 10 chance to punch their ticket into the Main Event.

Qualifiers will have the choice of beginning play in the Main in either Day 1A (Sun.) or Day 1B (Mon.)

The Poker Room is where you'll find Event 16 ($350) buzzing along. After starting with 30 tables, they're down to 25 as Level 5 (150/300/25 ante) is underway. More recognizable faces include: Scott Strubel, Matt "Muffins" Mazzeo and Cathy Dever.

Event 15: Salant Stylin'

$1000 + $90 NL

Shlomi Salant is here from Manhattan to play a little poker.  He's also sporting a stylish fedora, which seems to be making a fashion comeback.  Check out these other poker players styling in their hats.

Shlomi Salant

Shlomi's hat seems to be working for him today as he's up to ~28k from the 15k starting stack.  He's hoping to go deep today and wear his hat all the way to the final table.

Table 15 was broken so Dwyte Pilgrim and Jason Young have been separated before they could get into too much trouble.  Table 14 is also down, so 13 tables remain here in the Signature Room (about 115 players).

Event 15: Last Woman Sitting - Already??

$1000 + $90 NL

Sheree Bykofsky played this event, but busted out early.  Her departure has left Cynthia Albert (Germantown, MD) as the only other woman to play this event and hence the last woman sitting.

 Cynthia Albert

Cynthia has quite a poker resume.  She won the Ladies event at Foxwoods in April 2006 ($27k) and another Ladies event at Harrah's AC in December 2009 ($11k).

In January of 2011, she finished 10th in the Heartland Poker Tour $1k No Limit event at the Red Rock in Las Vegas (almost $8k).

Cynthia blogs about poker on the High Heels Poker Tour site.  When not playing poker, she is the Political Program Coordinator for Daimler (maker of Mercedes Benz and Freightliner Trucks) in Washington, DC.

Event 15: Lippy Leads

$1000 + $90 NL

Before the break:  Richard Woodall picked the wrong time to make a move when he shoved on the turn with a board of 7 3 2 6 (two hearts).  His opponent snap called, showing pocket Kings.  "I didn't think you were that strong" said Richard, as he showed his Q9 of diamonds (zip, nada, squa-doosh).  Richard was drawing dead and he shipped the  double across the felt.  He's now trying to work his way out of a short-stacked hole.

Richard finished 7th in event 8, the $400 Deep Stack Double Play event a few days ago, cashing for over $7,000.

Adam Lippert

Adam 'Lippy' Lippert has taken an early chip lead with ~42k, thanks to a set of Queens.

Event 15: Contest Update

$1000 + $90 NL

Mike Dentale, who won the kickoff event of this series, has been knocked out of the top spot on the BORGATA SPRING POKER OPEN LEADERBOARD contest.  He's about 10.5 points behind the current point leader.

Alek Givotovsky, who won event 8, is only about 7 points behind Mike and he's also playing today.  There are a lot of points up for grabs in this event as the winner will earn

100 points x 1.3 for the # of entries factor (1.4 if it tops 150 players) x 1.4 for the buy-in factor =
182 points.

Just for playing these guys are guaranteed to pick up 5 x 1.3 x 1.4 = 9.1 points.

Today (Friday) and tomorrow (Saturday) are the last days to earn points.

Event 15: Level 3 Underway

 $1000 + $90 NL

After two levels of play, players were rewarded with a break.

They're now back in action with level 3, blinds 75/150.

Mike 'Little Man' Sica was moved up front to table five to balance.  He's now sharing the felt with Al Grimes and Josh Brikis.

James 'suits' Salters has entered late and landed in Mike's old seat next to Mike Dentale.

Event 16: Rounders Abound

$300 + $50 NL (1 Re-Entry)

A quick pass through the Poker Room turned up some interesting players in this event.

2002 WSOP Main Event winner Robert Varkonyi is way in the back at table one.

2005 WSOP Main Event runner-up Steve Dannenmann is at table 30, which is currently the last table in action (ten-handed tables).

Also spotted:
Ibra Ibraimovic
Angelo Modica (has already busted out and re-entered)
Joshua Cranfill
Ed Abendschein
Mike Kalfa
Joanne Monteavaro

Interestingly, Gil Sacks and Frank Gangemi have both opted to play this event instead of the $1,000 NL event.  Gil is currently 8th (244.5 points) and Frank is 6th (252.725 points) on the BORGATA SPRING POKER OPEN LEADERBOARD contest and hoping to win a seat in the main event.

Event 15: Lots of Familiar Faces

 $1000 + $90 NL

More than half-way through the Borgata Spring Poker Open tournament series and most of the faces in the room are starting to look familiar.  Here are some I was able to put names to:

Sammy Elkassir
Sheree Bykofsky
Tony Sinishtaj
Adam Lippert
Barry Leventhal
Eric Seigel
Michael Shasho
Al Grimes
Ray Shackelford
Matthew Iles
Doug Rosen
Ben Klier
Alek Givotovsky
Richard Woodall
Eric Panayiotou

Event 16: Cards In The Air

$300 + $50 NL (1 Re-Entry)

Cards are in the air for today's $300 No Limit event in the Poker Room.

Players started with 12,000 chips and blinds of 25/50.

Levels 1-4 are 25 minutes long and players who nust out during the first four levels may opt to re-enter (once).  Late registration will also be allowed through the first four levels.

Levels 5 and higher will last 30 minutes and these folks will play all day until a winner is declared.

Event 15: Interesting Tables

 $1000 + $90 NL

Late registrants are still arriving and finding their seats.  Entry will be allowed through the first four levels.

This is causing some interesting pairings.  Jason Young and Dwyte Pilgrim made quite a showing in the poker room yesterday, playing $100+$20 Sit-&-Gos with the locals.  Those two have again landed side-by-side at table 15.

On table 14, Mike 'Little Man' Sica and Mike Dentale are in seats 2 and 3, respectively.

Table 10 is chock-full of poker talent with Roland Israelashvilli, Gordon Eng, Mickey Woll, David Zeitlin, and Will Heger.

Currently 15 nine-handed tables in action and the cry of "Seat Open" has already been heard.

Blinds are up to 50/100 for level 2.

Event 15: Returning Regulars

 $1000 + $90 NL

There are a few regular players that have been notably absent in earlier events, but have turned up today:

James Boyle, Josh Brikis, & Matt Stout

James Boyle, who won the main event seat in January via the new point system, was notably absent.  He's here today, ready to rock.

Josh Birkis is another frequent player here that's just shown up today.  He's making the rounds between hands, catching up with friends.

Matt Stout relocated to Las Vegas a few months ago, but has returned to the east coast for some hockey playoffs and poker.
