Event 14: Thomas John McCann - 6th Place

Seniors NL

Thomas John McCann - 6th Place - $1,804

Thomas John McCann met the other John McCann about three years ago. He was standing in line at the cage and heard the attendant ask the gentleman in front's name. He said John McCann. Then she asked his birthdate (year and day). Both matched up exactly. Both John McCann's were born on the exact day and year.

Last hand for this McCann had him running into a set. Both players were all-in pre-flop with wired pairs.

6th place for $1,804 - that's will buy a lot of prune juice.

Event 13: 5th place - Fields

$200 + $30 DS Semi Turbo NL (2 Re-Entry)

Ryan Chapman raised utg and got called by Angelo Fields (Washington DC) on the button.  On the flop of A K 8, Ryan led out for 225k.  Angelo moved in for ~550k and Ryan called.

Angelo Fields

Angelo held K3 suited for middle pair.  Ryan held A4 for top pair and the lead.  The last two came 9 7 and Ryan took the pot.

Angelo Fields finished in 5th place, earning $3,352.

Event 14: Tenenbaum Bounced - 7th Place

Seniors NL

Al Tenenbaum - 7th Place - $1,443

As we know, the best hand in doesn't always win.

Short stack Al Tenenbaum (Marlboro, NJ) sticks it in with A-10 and is battling for his life against Bob Polunas' Q-8.

Both have outs on the flop of 6-7-9 but the Q on the turn crushes Al.

River K doesn't improve Tenenbaum's hand who is out in 7th place.

Al loves playing at Borgata but this was his first Seniors tournament.

"Long but fun" said Al as he headed out.

Event 13: 6th place - Giaimo

$200 + $30 DS Semi Turbo NL (2 Re-Entry)

Daniel Giaimo (Mt. Kisto, NY) got all-in pre-flop holding pocket 8s against Ben Geller, who held KQ.  A Queen came on the flop and that was all it took for Ben to claim the pot.

 Daniel Giaimo

Daniel Giaimo claimed 6th place and $2,794.

Event 13: 7th place - Kaufman

$200 + $30 DS Semi Turbo NL (2 Re-Entry)

Michael Kaufman (Northborough, MA) min-raised utg and action folded to Aaron Fields, who called.  Flop came  8 5 3 rainbow and Michael led out for 100k.

Michael Kaufman

Aaron min-raised to 200k and Michael moved in for 600k straight.  Aaron called,  showing T9 (apparently thought he had T8 for top pair).  Michael held AK and was ahead, but the last two came 7 T and Aaron paired his Ten on the river.

Michael Kaufman finished in 7th place, earning $2,235.

Event 14: Ruff Is Ruffled - 8th Place

Seniors NL

Stuart Ruff - 8th Place - $1,083

Stuart Ruff was short stacked and had been picking up a few blinds and antes with Ace high pre-flop shoves.

Then he picked up A-J in the big blind but ran into an A-Q limper.

Clean board causes Ruff to say thank you and good night.

Rough hand for Ruff.

Event 13: 8th place - McGuinness

$200 + $30 DS Semi Turbo NL (2 Re-Entry)

Michael McGuiness (Toms River, NJ) limped utg+1, then Aaron Dillard made it 150k on his immediate left.  Everyone folded back around to Michael, who moved all-in.  Aaron called, showing Q9 suited.  Michael held AK offsuit.

 Michael McGuinness

The flop came J T 8, giving Aaron a straight and leaving Michael in need of one of three remaining Queens.  The last two came A 6 and Aaron took the pot.

Michael McGuinness earned $1,676 for his 8th place finish.

Event 13: 9th place - Casement

$200 + $30 DS Semi Turbo NL (2 Re-Entry)

James Casement, Jr. was going for his second win of the Borgata Poker Open, but it did not come to pass.  He made his move from the hijack, shoving for 250k, but ran his K3 suited into pocket Jacks.

 James Casement Jr.

The Jacks held up so James won't be making a repeat performance tonight.  He won event 6 and $30,555 just a few days ago.  Tonight he picks up $1,117 for 9th place.

Event 14: Melvin Cherry Busted - 9th Place

Seniors NL

Melvin Cherry - 9th Place - $812

Melvin Cherry is out in ninth place after shoving the flop only to realize Bill Sussman just spiked top and bottom pair.

Melvin's J-10 loses to Bill's A-8 on the A-J-8 flop. Blanks on turn and river send Cherry home with a pit in his stomach.

"Had a lot of fun and I'll be back for the next one" said Cherry referring to Borgata Senior Events.

Event 13: 10th place - Piccolo

$200 + $30 DS Semi Turbo NL (2 Re-Entry)

Aaron Dillard opened for 90k, Angelo Fields called, then Matthew J. Piccolo shoved for 374k.  Aaron opted out, but after giving it some thought, Angelo made the call.

 Matthew J. Piccolo

Matthew's AK was racing against Angelo's pocket Jacks.  The board came K Q J 2 2 and Angelo's set of Jacks took the pot.

Matthew J. Piccolo (Dumont, NJ) finished in 10th place, picking up $726.

Event 14: Three More Down

Seniors NL

Gerard Ciofalo - 11th Place - $722

Tough one for Gerard Ciofalo who held K-Q vs AK and hit a king on the flop. The chips spilled into the middle and Ciofalo is out in 11th Place for $722.

Angelo Modica faced a similar fate flopping top pair on the flop but holding a weaker kicker.
Modica is out in 12th Place for $722 at the hand of Bob Polunas who has padded his stack.

Howard Mann ended up in 13th place for $631.

Event 13: 14th - 11th Places

$200 + $30 DS Semi Turbo NL (2 Re-Entry)

Jamie Menninger

Jamie Menninger (Linwood, NJ) finished in 14th place.  Jamie was the last woman sitting in this event.

Bob Santilli (Jackson, NJ) got all his chips in pre-flop, along with three other players.  Bob's AQ was in bad shape against pocket Queens and two other hands.  The Queens held up and Bob was busted in 13th place.

Jamie and Bob earned $615 each.

Chris Bonn (Westfield, NJ) got his chips in good with AK, getting called by the big blind, who held Q9.  A Queen on the flop spelled the end of Chris' day.  He finished in 12th place.

Jeff Cole (Manahawkin, NJ) finished in 11th place.

Chris and Jeff earned $726.

Event 14: What The Muck?

Seniors NL

Harvey Layton runs a great bluff and scoops the pot. He pushes his cards forward to much and his opponent flips them over exposing them to the entire table.

An honest mistake, apologies abound, and I guess all senility, I mean stability has resumed.

Harvey was playing such garbage cards he'll have to make the proper adjustments and work it to his advantage.

14 players left.
Average chip stack: 88,571
Blinds: 3000 / 6000 with 500 antes.

Event 13: 17th - 15th Places

$200 + $30 DS Semi Turbo NL (2 Re-Entry)

Joseph Strazzera, Hermen Correia, & Heung Yoon

Joseph Strazzera (Henryville, PA) finished in 17th place.

Herman Correia (W. Long Branch, NJ) finished in 16th place.

Both collected $559 for their efforts.

Heung Yoon (Woodbridge, VA) finished in 15th place and collected $615.

Event 14: Dan "The Man" Hits The Fan - 14th Place

Seniors NL

Dan "The Man" Moskowitz - 14th Place - $631

Dan Moskowitz (Glen Head, NY) practices family law in Queens and said he had a lot of fun today at Borgata. "I played a Seniors at another casino at it was just a bunch of grumpy old men - this was fun" said Dan.

Dan's A-10 saw an Ace on the flop while Angelo Modica hit a set of kings.

Dan was all in pre-flop for his remaining 30,000 and bows out in 14th place for $631.

Some of the Seniors are ribbing Modica for being so young and playing in a Seniors. "He's okay, we grandchilded him in" said Moskowitz.

Event 13: 18th place - Smith

$200 + $30 DS Semi Turbo NL (2 Re-Entry)

In a three-way pre-flop all-in, Gary Smith was the short-stack with the big hand: pocket Kings.

 Gary Smith

Robert Santilli was the medium-stack with the medium hand: pocket Tens.

Michael Kaufman was the big stack with the small hand: pocket 2s.

The board came 9 7 6 T A and Robert made a set on the turn to scoop the pot.

Gary Smith (Long Island, NY) was busted in 18th place.  He'll pick up $559 on the way out.

Event 14: Rasile & Wolper Out

Seniors NL

Frank Rasile departed the Seniors in 16th place for $541 when his pocket sevens ran into John McCann's pocket jacks.

Clean board of 9-6-10-A-6 for McCann sending Rasile to the Rail.

14 Players Remain

On the other table almost simultaneously, Howard Wolper falls to the other McCann, Thomas John.

Wolper busts in 15th place for $631.

Wolper looks down at a Whopper of a hand - pocket Kings. He gets it all in and McCann snap calls.

Wolper tables Kings and McCann flips Aces.

Board falls 10-5-2-J-7 sending the former chip leader home for the night.

Howard was understandable disappointed with the horrible beat. Nothing he could have done.

Event 13: Tough Way To Go

$200 + $30 DS Semi Turbo NL (2 Re-Entry)

Gary Rosen (Canadensis, PA) got his last 130k in with AT and was racing against Angelo Fields' pocket deuces.  The flop came 5 4 3 and all of a sudden, Gary didn't want to pair his Ace.  Unfortunately, that's just what happened on the turn.  River was a brick and Angelo took the pot with a wheel.

Gary took 20th place and $503.

Another player has busted out and the final 18 redrew seats and moved to the final two tables.

Event 14: Two Seniors Down

Seniors NL

Two Seniors have fallen and they can't get up!

Jack "The Snake" Deutsch is out in 18th place for $541 min cash while Ronald Bachman (Bridgeton, NJ) just busted in 17th place for the same payout.

Ronald loved the flop of 10-7-8 holding J-10 but he ran into Howard Wolper's pocket queens.

Turn 5 and River K was no help to Ronald who is out.

Blinds: 1500 / 3000 with 400 antes.

Event 13: Cashing Out

$200 + $30 DS Semi Turbo NL (2 Re-Entry)

 Matt 'Matman' McElwee

Matt 'Matman' McElwee of Catonsville, MD, was the first player to depart after regular play resumed.  Matt earned $503 for his efforts here today.

Eric Miller's luck has run out.  He was utg and all-in for 20k (blinds were 6k/12k).  Both blinds called and checked down the board.  Eric's AJ failed to pair, but the big blind paired his 3 to take the pot.

Eric will also collect $503 for his 26th place finish.

Three more players have reported to the rail, leaving 22 still in action.

Event 13: In the Money!

$200 + $30 DS Semi Turbo NL (2 Re-Entry)

After a few hands of hand-for-hand play, a player busted out and the remaining 27 are in the money.

The next nine players to bust out will each receive $503.

They broke table four so now they're at three nine-handed tables.

Back to regular play now.

Event 13: Bubble Time

$200 + $30 DS Semi Turbo NL (2 Re-Entry)

Two more players have busted out, meaning it is bubble-time.

They are now playing hand-for-hand until one more player is eliminated.

Blinds are up to 6k/12 with 2k antes.

Event 14: Bubble Ben

Seniors NL

Hand for hand for twenty minutes ends with AA vs. AK all in shove fest.

Seniors NL faithful, Ben Laves (Summerset, NJ) held A-K but ran into Aces and is out.

Ben departs in 19th place which means he's the bubble.

He rushed back after dinner break and never got to feast on his Bobby Flay lampchops.
He's on his way back to track down his doggy bag.

"Seniors are the best tournaments. Everyone is congenial except that guy..." laughed Laves.

That guy - will remain nameless.

Event 14: Hand For Hand

Seniors NL

Old Guys Rule

Stuart Ruff risks his tournament with KK and doubles up through opponent holding QQ. All in pre flop action on a 6-8-J-J-A board.

Stuart's hat is right on the money for this tourney. Front says: Old Guys Rule. Back says: The Older I Get, The Better I Was.

With 18 getting paid, Lee Mount (Hazleton, PA) is out in 20th place when his pocket 33's get out flopped by opponent's A-K.

Board runs: A-Q-Q-8-4.

Lee, a retired plastics container maker, loves to play the Seniors every year and when a young guy pops in, he likes to take some shots at him.

20th Place. One away from bubble.

Event 13: Good Call

$200 + $30 DS Semi Turbo NL (2 Re-Entry)

With 31 players remaining, just four away from the money, this hand took place on table four.

In a multi-way limped pot, they reached the river three-handed.  The board read A K 3 Q 6 (no flush possible).  It was checked to seat 8 (hijack), who shoved for 62k.  Anne-Marie Caparros (Ronkonkoma, NY) had him covered, but not by much.  She tanked for a few minutes, considering not only her actions, but that there was still one player to act behind her.

 Anne-Marie Caparros

She eventually made the "F*ck-it" call and the third player folded.  Her opponent showed 97 suited for a busted flush draw.  Anne-Marie showed QJ for a pair of Queens to collect the pot, sending her opponent home.

Event 13: Back in Action

$200 + $30 DS Semi Turbo NL (2 Re-Entry)

Players have returned from dinner and cards are flying again.

Level 19 blinds are 5k/10k with 1k antes.

Seven more players must go to reach the money.

Event 14: Chip Leaders

Seniors NL

Bob Polunas (Toms River, NJ) 131k and Dan "The Man" Moskowitz (NYC) 78k continue to lead the way.

Angelo Modica (Astoria, NY) says he lost 30k on the last two hands before the break and is down to 50k. Howard Wolper is also still alive, but is at 30k, about half the 62k average.

Event 13: Dinnertime Chip Leaders

$200 + $30 DS Semi Turbo NL (2 Re-Entry)

At the end of level 18, the dinner bell was rung and the 34 remaining players were sent on a 45 minute dinner break.

Play will resume at about 7:35pm.

Here are the top three in chips as of the dinner break:
Angelo Fields ~660k
James Casement Jr. ~500k
Ben Geller ~460k

Event 14: Aces Hold Twice

Seniors NL

With 22 players remaining there are back to back hands on two different tables where pockets aces hold.

First "Juke Box" John McCann (Garnett Valley) takes out pocket fours. That's followed by Rich Pilchman (Brick, NJ) and his aces holding against pocket 3s.

20 players remain (62k avg), two away from the money, as they're on dinner break with play resuming at 7:40 pm.

Event 13: Miller Time

$200 + $30 DS Semi Turbo NL (2 Re-Entry)

Eric Miller (Long Island, NY) must be living right.   A short while ago he was all-in with pocket 8s against an overpair and he caught a two-outer 8 on the river to survive.

 Eric Miller

This time he was all-in with pocket Aces and ahead of his opponent's pocket Jacks.  A Jack appeared in the door on the flop and Eric was in trouble.  Another player at the table said he folded AK, so there was one Ace left in the deck...and it appeared on the river, a one-outer, to save Eric again.  He's now up to ~170k.

Event 13: Ten Away From the Money

$200 + $30 DS Semi Turbo NL (2 Re-Entry)

Play continues in level 18 with blinds of 4k/8k with 1k antes.

Down to 37 players, only 10 away from the money.  Average is almost 195k.

A sudden quiet has come over this area of the room.  Players are very aware how close to the money they are and the short-stacks are trying to hang on.

Event 13: Kings Hold for Fields

$200 + $30 DS Semi Turbo NL (2 Re-Entry)

A huge hand transpired over on table two that  delivered a new chip leader and cancelled the Mike and Mike Show.

On a flop of 7 6 4 with two hearts, Angelo Fields (Washington DC) was all-in for 171,500, getting called by Michael Lu and another player.

 Angelo Fields

They checked down the last two cards, which were offsuit 8 K.  The third player held Q9 of hearts for a busted flush draw.  Michael Lu held pocket Queens and Angelo held pocket Kings to claim the monster pot, tripling up to ~640k.

Michael Lu was left short-stacked and busted out soon after.

Event 13: The Mike and Mike Show

$200 + $30 DS Semi Turbo NL (2 Re-Entry)

Over on table two are a couple of Mikes, battling over the green felt.

In seat two, hailing from Northborough, Massachusetts, is Michael Kaufman.  Michael went deep in event 8, finishing 19th out of 477 entrants ($1,147).  This Mike has amassed about 565k in chips and is looking for another deep run here today.

 Michael Kaufman & Michael Lu

Across the table in seat six, originally from Vietnam, is Michael Lu.  He currently calls Cherry Hill, New Jersey his home.  He's struggling in the last few levels, but still hoping to make a comeback.

Celebrity Sit-&-Go #2

Jason Young claimed victory in the first $100 + $20 Celebrity Sit-and-Go this afternoon (Dwyte Pilgrim busted out early).

Jason and Dwyte have filled another table and launched their second sit-and-go.  Apparently there is no shortage of players wanting to sit down and play poker with these two characters.

Event 14: Two at 100k

Seniors NL

The new chip leader with 120k is Bob Polunas (Toms River, NJ). Still hanging around the top is
Dan "The Man" Moskowitz (NYC), who has 105k.

Chris Reslock
Tony Shurilla

 Alik Sitnyakovsky

James Casement, Jr. has pulled into the chip lead with ~320k.  James won event 6, the $1000 No Limit event just a few days ago, along with over $30,000.

Event 14: Brown Out

Seniors NL

Donald Brown (Westbury, NY), the second place finisher in this event last spring is out when his pocket queens are cracked by Frank Rasile (Staten Island, NY).

Brown is all in for 13k and Rasile calls with A J.

Flop: K 7 8 (Brown still ahead)
Turn: 9 (Rasile picks up a gutter ball)
River: 10

Rasile hits a 10 for a jack high straight to win the hand.

"Nice hand sir," says a frustrated Brown and adds something along the lines of, "if you're not careful you might trip over a horse shoe."

48 players remain with an average stack of 26k as they play Level 13 (1.2k/2.4k/.3k ante)

Event 13: Sacks Sacked

$200 + $30 DS Semi Turbo NL (2 Re-Entry)

There will be no repeat for TJ Jaimangal as he has busted out and departed.

Also gone are Larry Gold, Thomas LeFort, and Ibra Ibraimovic.

Gil Sacks is currently 8th on the Borgata Spring Poker Open Leaderboard contest
with 228.225 points.  He will have two more days to earn points in an attempt to win a seat in to the main event, which begins on Sunday.  Since he has already busted out of this event, he will pick up about 8 more points, which is not enough to advance him in the standings.

Event 14: Finally 50

Seniors NL

Frigeria, Fifty and Fabulous

There's no hard and fast rule on the age of Seniors Event participants as evidence by Angelo Modica, the 29 year old who's taken ribbing for playing in the tournament. Meet Vincent Frigeria (Long Island, NY) who's been waiting the last few years to enter this event.

"I just turned 50 and had my I.D. ready, but no one asked to see it," he says with a big smile.

Frigeria shrugs and is back at the table with a short stack as one of the younger players in the field.

Event 13: Geller Gains Ground

$200 + $30 DS Semi Turbo NL (2 Re-Entry)

Down to 9 tables now, with 90 players still hoping for a piece of the pie.

Ben Geller has kicked it into high gear.  As I passed by his table, he was stacking more chips.  He's over 260k now, while the average is 80k.

Celebrity Sit-&-Go

Borgata's own 2010 WPT champion Dwyte Pilgrim and 2008 WSOP bracelet winner Jason Young announced they were going to play $100 + $20 Sit-and-Gos this afternoon in the back of the Poker Room.

 Dwyte Pilgrim & Jason Young

The announcement was made in the poker room that the two larger-than-life personalities would be taking on the fist eight players to fill out the table.  All seats were occupied in short order.

As soon as they get the money collected, play will be underway.

Event 14: New Chip Leader

Seniors NL
Original Gorilla Gone

Mel Cherry (Langhorne, PA) is slowly building his stack and has enough chips to call Tony Shurilla's (Lower Longswamp Twp., PA) all-in bet on the flop. The board is K J 7 and the Original Shurilla Gorilla has K J for two pairs and tries to take the pot right there.

Cherry risks 1/3 of his stack and makes the call with 10 10. He's way behind (13% to win the hand), until the board goes Q-9, runner, runner straight cards to send Shurilla to the rail.

Cherry adds 15k to his stack and is now one of the big stacks with 60k.

Event 13: Givotovsky Gonzo

$200 + $30 DS Semi Turbo NL (2 Re-Entry)

Alek Givotovsky will not be repeating today.  The event 8 winner found the last of his chips in the middle against Byung Yoo.  Alek held a meager 84 offsuit and was up against KQ off.

The flop came Q 5 4 giving both players a pair, but Yoo was still in the lead.  Turn was a 7, giving Alek a gutshot.  He needed a 4 or a 6 to survive.  River was another Queen, however, and Alek was ejected from this event.

Event 14: Early Stacks

Seniors NL

Dan "The Man"

A couple of players are in the 40k range as the seniors are settling in. The top two stacks are Dan "The Man" Moskowitz (NYC) and Bob Simmons (Boonton, NJ).

Simmons takes down a pot with pocket aces against Tony Shurilla's pocket 8s. The original Shurilla Gorilla bets 1600 on the river after both check the turn and Simmons wins the showdown.

Event 13: Aces Cracked, Aces Good

$200 + $30 DS Semi Turbo NL (2 Re-Entry)

Matt Jacobi (Durham, NC) has taken a couple of tough beats today.  "He lost the ones he should have won, and now won one he should have lost" said the player on Matt's right.

Matt was all-in with 87 of clubs against pocket Aces (both red).  His opponent turned a set of Aces, but Matt flushed on the river to crack those aces and double-up.

 Gary Smith

Later on that same table, there was a three-way all-in with AK, pocket Kings, and the pocket Aces of Gary Smith (Long Island, NY).  This time the Aces held up.  Gary scooped the pots and chipped up to over 150k, possibly good for the chip lead.

Event 13: Friendly Table, Big Stacks

$200 + $30 DS Semi Turbo NL (2 Re-Entry)

Table 16 seems to be getting along pretty well, considering the fact that there are some big stacks and big players over there.

Ben Geller, Ibra Ibraimovic, & TJ Jaimangal

Ben Geller is in the one seat and he's up to ~120k.  Ibra Ibraimovic (Brooklyn, NY) is in the 5 seat and has about 150k.  He's recovering from recent surgery on his shoulder.

Then there's TJ Jaimangal (Queens, NY) in the nine seat. TJ won this event in September during the 2010 Borgata Poker Open, along with over $28,000.  He would like to repeat as champion.

And finally in the ten seat is event 8 winner Alek Givotovsky (NY, NY) who picked up $47,287 just a couple of days ago.

Event 14: Which One Doesn't Belong?

Seniors NL
Culp, Modica & Pompo

Busting out from the 11 am leaves few options for Angelo Modica (Astoria, NY) who may or may not be 30 years-old. "What am I supposed to do? I want to play," he says. So Modica sheepishly walks towards his new table in the Seniors Event, which is designed for the more seasoned players.

He gets a chilly reception and good natured ribbing as he takes his seat between Tricia Culp (Long Island, NY) and Nick Pompo (Wildwood, NJ).

I guess Modica didn't want to play at any of the 25 cash tables currently running or wait for the 3 pm Championship Qualifier. Here's a look at the full list of Super Satellite and cash tournaments available during the Borgata Spring Poker Open.

Event 13: Break Time Chip Leader

$200 + $30 DS Semi Turbo NL (2 Re-Entry)

At the end of level 9, players were rewarded with a break.

Still waiting for the number of entries, but 24 tables are active.

 Chris Bonn

Chris Bonn (Westfield, NJ) has emerged as an early chip leader.  He's over 100k already.

Event 14: Crazy 8s

Seniors NL
Sheree Set to Stick Around

Author Sheree Bykofsky (Atlantic City, NJ) has one cash in the Borgata Spring Poker Open and

The frustrated player is pot committed and calls with pocket aces, only to see Bykofsky has a set 0f 8s and the hand holds. Bykofsky doubles to 12k and is now just above the starting stack. The other player takes a hit and is down to 5k.
