Event 18: 9th Place - Matros

$2500 + $200 Double Play NL Championship

Matt Matros (Brooklyn, NY)
$21,680

On the third hand back from break Jason Deutsch opens the betting and Matt Matros moves all in for a little less than one million chips.

Deutsch: A♣ A
Matros: A 7

Flop: 4♠ Q A♠ (Deutsch leads with set of aces)
Turn: 9 (Matros picks up a flush draw - 8 outs, as the 4 gives Deutsch a full house)
River: 5♣

Matros misses his draw and is out in 9th place. "It's been a really long tournament," says Matros. "I'm disappointed, but at least I went for it. I wasn't playing to move up a spot. I was looking for chips."

Matros is a 33 year-old poker pro who won his first WSOP Bracelet last year and has $1.5 million in career earnings. Here's a recent opinion article Matros wrote for the Washington Post defending poker since the government shut down the on-line game.

The article led to a CNN interview that has yet to air and required Matros to travel back to New York City on his off day (Monday) after playing on Day 1A. The extra travel added to what was already a long three days of poker.
